La stagione turistica italiana ha aperto quest’estate, secondo Fluvia Griffa, la presidentessa della federazione per il turismo, ma c’è una carenza di personale del 20%. La Griffa sostiene che la situazione è seria. Non soltanto l’Italia ha una carenza ma anche altri paesi Europei. Per esempio, Francia ha dichiarato che hanno una carenza di circa 300.000 lavoratori per la stagione turistica. Spagna ha dichiarato circa 50.000 e l’Austria ha dichiarato circa 15.000. L’economia italiana dipende dal turismo. Se i lavori non vengono occupati o le agenzie non funzionano a pieno regime, l’Italia può perdere più di €6.5 miliardi. Secondo Vittorio Messina, il presidente di Assoturismo Confesercenti, se l’Italia non avrà la forza lavoro quando finalmente ci saranno le opportunità turistiche dopo due anni di pandemia, sarà uno scherzo spaventoso per la stagione turistica e tutta la filiera. 

Italy's tourist season is expected to be back in full swing this year, but “There’s a 20 percent staff shortage, the situation is dramatic,” Fulvio Griffa, president of the Italian tourist operators’ federation Fiepet Confesercenti, told the Repubblica news daily. Italy is not the only European country facing this issue. France is also short an estimated 300,000 seasonal workers this year. Spain is down 50,000 waiters, and Austria is missing 15,000 hired hands across its food and tourism sectors. Italy’s economy, however, is particularly dependent on tourism. If the job vacancies cannot be filled and resorts are unable to meet the demand anticipated this summer, the country stands to lose an estimated €6.5 billion. “After two years of pandemic, it would be a sensational joke to miss out on a summer season that is expected to recover strongly due to the absence of workers,” said Vittorio Messina, president of the Assoturismo Confesercenti tourist association.
