A series of avalanches during the first week of February claimed the lives of at least nine skiers and snowboarders. Four people who were allegedly skiing off-piste (not skiing on the slopes that are carefully managed by a nearby resort) were hit by an avalanche in a valley near the resort of Courmayeur in the northern Italian region of Valle d’Aosta in the Italian Alps and were killed. A snowboarder was killed in the northern Italian region of Lombardy and an 18-year-old skier was hit by another avalanche in the South Tyrol region near the Austrian border.

Una serie di valanghe durante la prima settimana di febbraio ha causato la morte di almeno nove sciatori e snowboarder. Quattro persone che presumibilmente stavando sciando fuori pista sono state investite ed uccise da una valanga in una valle nei pressi della località alpina di Courmayeur, in Val d’Aosta. Un altro appassionato di snowboard è deceduto nella regione settentrionale della Lombardia e uno sciatore di 18 anni è stato travolto da un’altra valanga sviluppatasi nella regione del Sud Tirolo, vicino al confine austriaco.
