An unseasonal hailstorm in early June in the Lecce province caused snowplows to take to the streets to remove up to 15cm of ice. Locals were seen in shorts and t-shirts digging their cars out of the ice. The storm also brought damage to crops in Puglia, a region which grows many of Italy’s olives, grapes and other fruit. Italy has seen much severe weather this year, from floods in the east, high winds in the south and the freezing temperatures in the north.

Una fitta coltre di ghiaccio si è depositata in pochissimo tempo sulle strade rendendo necessario l’intervento degli spazzaneve e causando danni ingenti per l’agricoltura nelle zone pugliesi maggiormente colpite dal maltempo in una regione nota per la coltivazione di olive e molte varietà di frutta. Le condizioni meteorologiche inclementi in Italia quest’anno hanno dato vita ad inondazioni, venti forti nel Sud e temperature gelide a Nord.
