The rules have changed for British nationals looking for Italian citizenship as of January 31, 2020 otherwise known as Brexit Day. Prior to Brexit, British nationals could apply for Italian citizenship after living in Italy for four years. Now, they will likely have to wait 10 years under Italy’s third-country national rules. Brits living in Italy and close to their four-year mark were hoping that the four-year rule would apply through the Brexit transition period until December 31, 2020, but that seems not to be the case.

Da 31 gennaio 2020, anche conosciuto come “Brexit Day”, le regole sono cambiate per le persone dall’Inghilterra che vorrebbero prendere la cittandanza italiana. Prima della Brexit, le persone inglesi potevano fare la domanda per la cittadanza italiana dopo che aver vissuto almeno quattro anni in Italia. Adesso, devono aspettare dieci anni, secondo la legge italiane. Gli inglesi che già vivono in italia, specialmente quelli che avevano quasi finito con l’attesa di quattro anni, pensavano che avessero fino a 31 dicembre 2020. Purtroppo per loro, questo non è possible.
