Makes about 1.5 quarts
Ingredients
½ pound strawberries, hulled and rinsed
¼ pound blueberries
¾ cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon lemon juice
2 cups whole milk
½ cup heavy cream
Preparation
Place the freezing bowl of the ice cream machine in the freezer and leave until it is completely frozen. (The length of time depends on how cold your freezer is.)
In a blender or food processor, puree strawberries, blueberries, sugar, lemon juice and milk. Add the cream and puree to combine. Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for several hours.
Place the chilled mixture in the bowl of the ice cream machine and turn the machine on. Freeze according to manufacturer’s instructions.
Serve gelato at once or transfer it to a plastic container and freeze until firm, 2 to 3 hours. Gelato can be frozen up to a month.
