A Swedish university professor who bought an Italian manuscript online from a Bologna student helped Italian police crack an art thievery ring. The professor alerted the Italian embassy in Sweden when he became curious about an antique ink stamp on the manuscript he bought. In turn, the embassy informed the Italian Carabinieri Culturale art fraud squad who worked with the Bologna student. The investigators followed the evidence to a bookdealer and his warehouse in Turin. They raided the property and recovered scores of stolen art and books taken from locales across Italy. The Swedish professor returned the manuscript he bought without compensation. It had cost him about 20,000 euros. 

Un libro di preghiere del ‘600 sottratto illegalmente dalla Biblioteca Reale è stato restituito. Ad accorgersi del probabile furto, un professore svedese che lo aveva acquistato per circa € 20.000 su Internet senza sapere nulla. Quando però lo ha ricevuto e sfogliandolo si è accorto che su alcune pagine portava il timbro della Biblioteca reale, ha immediatamente contattato l’ambasciata Italiana in Svezia. I carabinieri della tutela del patrimonio nazionale hanno individuato uno studente di Bologna che aveva a sua volta comprato il volumetto da un antiquario torinese ora sotto indagine: gli investigatori hanno trovato un magazzino zeppo di libri e documenti illecitamente sottratti e provenienti da furti commessi in tutta Italia.
