Pasquale Natuzzi started his career very young. The son of a cabinetmaker in 1959 at 19, he opened a workshop in Taranto, where three employees built sofas and armchairs for the local market. In 1962 he moved to Matera, where he started a trading experience that allows him to fully understand the issues and mechanisms of distribution. In 1967, still in Matera, Pasquale Natuzzi returned to his first love: the production of sofas and armchairs. He founded the Natuzzi Salotti srl. A year later, due to a fire that completely destroyed the factory in Matera, Pasquale Natuzzi decided to move the production to Santeramo in Colle, which currently houses the headquarters of the Group.
By the mid-70s, Natuzzi presented for the first time at a furniture fair in Bari. At the fair, he developed customers in the Middle East: Saudi Arabia, Israel, Jordan. By 1976, the company exported 60% of its sales to those countries. In the early '80s Pasquale Natuzzi started selling to Macy's department stores. Natuzzi's leather sofa sold to the public at one third of the average price of U.S. brands.
Natuzzi was given an Honorary Degree in Education, on December 2001 by Bari University. On October 2008 Pasquale Natuzzi was inserted into the American Furniture Hall of Fame.
