The ongoing battle between Venetians and tourists continues as Venice has won approval to introduce an entry fee of up to 10 euros for short-stay tourists to the city. Inhabitants of Italy’s tiny Aeolian Islands have long complained about the detrimental effect mass tourism has on its picturesque cities. The new entry fee will target day-trippers arriving on cruise ships and is expected to be set at 2.50-5 euros per person, but at peak times increasing to 10 euros.

Si tratta della cosiddetta “tassa di sbarco” già prevista per alcune isole minori per chi - con qualunque vettore - arrivi a Venezia per turismo e non pernotti nella città lagunare. Gli abitanti delle isole Eolie si sono a lungo lamentati dell’effetto dannoso che il turismo di massa ha sulle sue pittoresche città. Il ticket è previsto anche per i gitanti che arrivano sulle navi da crociera e dovrebbe essere fissato tra i 2,50 ed i 5 euro a persona, con un importo massimo di 10 euro per gli arrivi nelle ore di punta.
