Dozens of people were evacuated from Courmayeur, a resort community in Italy’s Aosta Valley region near the French border, in early August. Mayor Stefano Miserocchi ordered the evacuation of residents and tourists from the northeastern Italian town as a huge chunk of ice from the Planpincieux glacier in the Mont Blanc (the highest mountain in the Alps) massif threatened to break off due to high temperatures. The block of ice is estimated at over 17 million cubic feet in size. 

Un grande gruppo di abitanti da Courmayeur, una paesino nella valle Aosta, vicino il confine con la Francia, è stato evacuato ad agosto. Il sindaco Stefano Miserocchi ha ordinato l'evacuazione perché il paesino è minacciato dal distacco del ghiacciaio Planpinicieux vicino Mont Blanc (la montagne più grande nelle Alpi). La zona ha lraggiunto temperature molto calde ed allora il ghiacciaio si sta sciogliendo. Il ghiacciaio è circa quattrocentroottantuno metri cubi.
