Italy introduced a digital certificate for access to some services and venues in an effort to curb COVID infections. The "green pass" will allow access for people who have had at least one vaccine dose, have recovered from coronavirus or who have tested negative within 48 hours. In early August, anyone over 12-years-old at venues such as gyms and restaurants must show their pass. Italy joins several other EU countries requiring such proof of status. France, Austria, Cyprus, and Denmark are among other EU countries which have launched similar schemes. In Italy, customers and businesses that break the rules could face fines of up to €1,000 ($1,200). Repeat offenders may be forced to close for 10 days. Polls suggest the majority of Italians support the move, although it has been a source of protests in some parts of the country. More than 60 percent of Italians have now been fully vaccinated. But infections have been rising driven by the Delta variant, with nearly 22,000 new cases reported at press time.

Da agosto, chiunque abbia più di 12 anni deve avere questo certificato per entrare in diversi luoghi, ad esempio i ristorante e le palestre. Nell’Unione Europea, ci sono dei paesi che hanno cominciato a richiedere il certificato, includso la Francia, l’Austria, il Cipro, e la Danimarca. Le aziende italiane che non seguono queste leggi rischiano una multa di 1.000 euro o possono essere obbligate a chiudere per 10 giorni. Un sondaggio ha riportato che molti italiani sono d’accordo con il certificato anche se ci sono degli scioperi contro le leggi. Ci sono più del 60% degli Italiani che hanno ricevuto il vaccino.
